The Alder Creek and Trail Creek fires on the Beaverhead-Deerlodge National Forest have now burnt more than 35,000 acres combined, as the Christensen Fire grew to 1,274 acres as of Sunday morning.An update from the Southern Area Incident Management Blue Team says fire activity picked up Satu stanley cup rday on the Alder Creek Fire west of Wise River. The fire has crossed Alder Creek and is now established on the north side of the drainage. Containment lines to the east of the fire are holding as crews continue to prioritize structure prote stanley cup ction.The Beaverhead County Sheriff s Office reports Stage 2 evacuations will start at noon on Sunday from Alder Creek Road north to Dickie Bridge on the southwest side of Highway 43. All other existing evacuations will remain in effect.The Trail Creek Fire now stands at 27,797 acres west of Wisdom, according to the Sunday morning update. The Big Hole National Battlefield and communications tower north of Highway 43 are secure. SOMERS 鈥?Students and staff in the Somers Lakeside School District are pitching in to help fund a local cause.School counselor Erin Jornen told MTN News that she encourages the student council every year to select a community cause to donate to.She specifically requires students to do this so they are actively engaged in their community. This year, students chose the Flathead Sheriffs K-9 unit.Raising funds through a penny war with middle school students and staff placing donations into th nike dunk eir designated jar. The jar with the most money at the end of t crocs wo weeks wins.Each bill or coin has different points. For example, a nickel has five points. However, placing pennies in someone elses jar and they get points taken away.Jornen says that fundraisers like this help engage students with their local nike dunk community. Part of why I encourage student council to pick a community organization to support every year just because I want them to be invested in whats going on around them and care about whats going on around them, Jornen explained.The Flathead County Sheriffs Office hopes to have the K-9s trained and ready in June.
