HARRIS COUNTY, Tex. -- A Texas sheriff s deputy was shot and killed Friday night, CBS affiliate KHOU reported.The deputy was on duty in a full uniform while filling up his patrol car at a Chevron in northwest Harris County when he it appears he was shot from behind by a suspect, Harris County Sheriff s Spokesperson Officer Thomas Gilliland told KHOU.The location is about 24 miles northwest of downtown Houston, according to the Houston Chronicle. A witness called 911 to alert the sheriff s office that one of their deputies had been shot, Gilliland said. The deputy, a 10-year veteran of the department, died at the scene. His name has not been released.Sheriff s officials believe the suspect is a dark-skinned male who s about 5-feet 10-inches or 6-feet tall wearing a white t-shirt and red shorts. Officials believe he fled the scene in a red- or maroon-colored Ford pickup truck, possibly an extended Ford Ranger.
